AN EXPLORATION INTO THE WOODEN FURNITURE INDUSTRY THROUGH THE THEORETICAL LENS OF PORTER’S CLUSTER- A CASE STUDY OF KHAIRPUR MIRS

Furniture industry of Pakistan is considered as one the high potential yet neglected clusters. This famous for its elaborate wooden carvings on blocks Sheeshum and Rosemary. The leading furniture making areas are Chiniot, Gujrat, Peshawar, Lahore Karachi. However, Pakistan’s share in international market insignificant, despite fact that country has a history craftsmanship innovation field furniture. Especially Sindh region which specializes wood have not been explored increasing export. Further, there dearth literature pertaining to their geographical clustering well causes underdevelopment interior Sindh’s industry. In response this gap, case study research a) conducts mapping Khairpur Mirs through GIS, b) constructs SWOT Matrix light Porter’s Cluster Theory basis thematic analysis. findings highlight location business units at Station Road from Khaki Shah pull Nimm More (approximately 1 km area) with around 150 200 houses/ manufacturers. identifies cluster participant driven solutions proposed. Finally, presents policy recommendations improve small scale industry’s socio economic growth.
